Mentorship
The
mentor program is required for all FMK participants. We feel that mentorship is a must due to the enormous amount of peer
pressure and negative influences on children today. Our goal is to ensure that the participant's needs are being met and
handled in the most productive way. The program includes self development workshops that educate the youth on topics such
as behavior, hygiene, and respecting authority figures. With the leadership skills acquired, older kids become junior mentors
to the younger children. This process improves self-confidence and gives responsibility. Community activities, banquets, and
other events create opportunities for our youth to earn community service hours. FMK works hand in hand with parents to ensure
that we enrich the overall character of every child.
Tutoring Our tutorial program enriches the educational
experience for all students. We provide students with help in all academic subject areas. Certified Baltimore County teachers,
as well as college students, volunteer their time to help our youth reach their potential in the classroom.
Our
S.A.T./College Preparation program provides the required guidance to move forward in persuing a college education. We review
transcripts, as well as assist with admissions applications, college selection, applying for scholarships, loans, and
grants. We also accompany our youth on college visits to provide additional support.
Job Workforce Development FMK will use
resources with local employers and staffing agencies to assist the youth in getting jobs. We will also conduct mock
interviews and donate clothing to those in need to ensure they are appropriately dressed for an interview. After they get
the job, FMK continues working with them, teaching them how to save and budget their money through financial planning. - Educational Training- Assist with resume writing, interviewing skills, basic
computer literacy training skills
- Job Development- Identify individual skills
and provide career development, coaching, mentoring, and internship opportunities as part of the process to determine suitability
for prospective employers
- Job Placement- match individual skills with employment opportunities
Crisis Intervention The
Crisis Intervention program is one of our most demanding programs. Kids in severe situations will receive one-on-one mentoring
on a daily basis. Teaching youth conflict resolution skills gives them the ability to defuse a problem before it explodes.
If needed, we will refer them to counseling or drug rehabilitation centers for additional support. Our 24 hour hotline is
available for immediate assistance.
Gang Rehabilitation
FMK believes
that in order for our communities to become stronger, it must start with our youth. We work hand in hand with the local police
gang unit and former gang members to show the misguided youth someone cares. We encourage them to become self efficient members
of society and not to rely on the false fellowship of the gang. We want to keep our youth off the street and out of prison.
All program participants will be required to complete all basic life skills, conflict resolution, and business communication
training classes.
Family Outreach
FMK will act as a resource center for families, providing
a listing of referrals to organizations that sponsor or provide services. These services may include drug rehabilitation,
job placement, counseling, shelters and educational programs to improve work skills and the quality of life. More often than
not, the parents need help and guidance as well. Our goal is to build the child by repairing the family. We will work with
families to help find positive solutions to any problem they may face.
FMK has partnered
with The Carpenter House to help these families find and acquire affordable housing, make better financial decisions, and learn
the importance of establishing good credit. FMK also donates dinners and toys during the Thanksgiving and Christmas
holidays for those families in need.
Athletic Training
FMK is dedicated to making athletes better. The organization has a number of athletes focusing on speed development,
agility, explosive power and strength. Our approach to training is the most efficient way to improve overall sports performance,
because we focus on the most important issue with young athletes and kids- their need for physical preparedness
in regards to their athletic development. The benefits of being prepared can improve a player's
overall athleticism and will also help reduce injury risk. Our training programs are specifically designed for young
athletes and their growing bodies, and reflect their stage of growth and maturity.
Our
physical training is overseen by professional trainer Chris Einlrich. His knowledge and experience ensures that your
child will be getting the best age-appropriate training available in the area. Nutrition
is another subject that we teach our kids in the program. One of the most important factors that we stress is a healthy diet,
one that follows the guidelines of the Food Guide Pyramid. This includes eating in moderation from all five groups of the
pyramid. We address the fundamental concepts, issues and ethics of eating in a modern world, and bridge the gap between nutrition,
personal and athletic growth by educating the kids on proper eating habits. FMK also believes that, healthy relationships,
regular physical activity, fulfilling careers and a spiritual practice all feed our souls and satisfy our hunger for living.
